About Us

North Buncombe Elementary is a public school accredited by the Southern Association of Schools and the North Carolina State Department of Public Instruction. The school is located in Weaverville, a rural town approximately ten miles north of Asheville. The student population consists of approximately 580 students (kindergarten through fourth grade students). A Headstart/Preschool class is also located on the site.

NBES utilizes volunteers from the community to tutor students, assist with fund raising, provide additional support to classroom teachers, serve on the School Improvement Team and to serve on the School Advisory Committee. Community members are encouraged to participate in Career Day and other events. Our PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) meets throughout the year and helps coordinate parent volunteer efforts.

The YMCA operates an after school program at NBES, which provides reasonably priced care until 6:00 PM.

NBES sponsors a variety of afterschool clubs. Teachers, administrators and parents supervise student participation in various clubs.
