An artist and the principal remove a tarp to reveal a chainsaw sculpture of a cow in a cape.

A special farmyard friend has arrived at North Buncombe Elementary School. 

A close-up view of the head of the cow sculpture.Chainsaw artist Michael Ayers created this superhero cow sculpture to add to the school’s playground and legacy garden. Ayers sculpted the piece from a more than 100-year-old white pine tree that fell during Hurricane Helene.

“We’re trying to show the resilience in the community,” said Ayers. “We want to use art to bring joy.”
