Kindergarten is an action-packed year (the best year ever!), full of learning, fun, and memory-making experiences! My assistant, Mrs. Sherrill, and I look forward to interacting with your child this year and fostering an excitement about learning! This is Mrs. Sherrill's second year with me in kindergarten and she is as excited as I am! We're ready to dig in and have a blast!
I attended Appalachian State (Go, Mountaineers!) and graduated with a B.S. in Early Childhood Education (K-4). I have received my National Board Certification and completed graduate school with a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Never stop learning! I live in Marshall with my husband, our two dogs and two cats.
This is my 25th year of teaching (Time flies when you're having fun!), as well as my 25th year in kindergarten, and my 23rd at NBES. I like to make sure fun and learning go hand-in-hand. Positive attitudes toward academics need to be fostered in kindergarten so the next 12 years will be a positive experience!
Hands-on activities are an important part of our day. From Math Workshop to SMILE, from Writers' Workshop to our Center Time, kids often find themselves knee-deep and up to their elbows in learning fun! After all, if you can't get a little glue, glitter (Everything is better with a little sparkle!), paint, and marker on your hands (or face, or shirt, or elbow, or shoes...), how fun could it be?!
The 2016-17 school year has started with a bang and we have been going full-force ever since! We definitely have action-packed days and sleep well at night! You are invited to come and visit our classroom at least once this year to share in your child's growing, learning, and succeeding at North Buncombe Elementary!
Up, up, and away!
