North Buncombe Elementary is a school-wide Title I school. The Title I program offers additional reading instruction to all students, provides staff development, and involves parents using a variety of methods. The instructional focus of the North Buncombe Elementary Title I program is to provide opportunities for all students to meet proficient and advanced levels of performance. These opportunities are provided through whole class and small group instruction.
All reading instruction is from scientifically based research. Schoolwide designation allows us to serve all students with 30 minutes of additional reading instruction daily. Our Title I Program, called SMILE in grades K-2 and SOAR in grades 3-4, supplements, supports, and enriches the basic reading program. All classroom teachers, their assistants, the Title I teacher and nine Title I assistants instruct heterogeneous groups of five to six students in grades K-4 using literature and non-fiction materials.
Title I also provides tutoring services for students who qualify for these services. Available take home materials for students include books on tape, FROG FUN FAMILY PACKS, Lightspan playstations, educational games, and LeapPad Kits.
